Software Development

Custom software development for mid-sized companies

We build the applications you actually need — as a web application, a mobile app or an interface to the systems you already run. Not software off the shelf, but software that fits the way you work.

Why custom software?

43%

of all software licences in companies are barely used or never used at all.

70%

of all ERP rollouts fail outright or overshoot budget and schedule by a wide margin.

Off-the-shelf software forces you to bend your processes to fit the tool — not the other way round. You pay for features you never touch and miss the ones you need. Custom software reverses that: the software adapts to your processes.

To be clear: for accounting, email or time tracking, standard software is perfectly fine. But where your processes are what sets you apart from your competitors, you need tools that are as distinctive as your business.

In-depth comparison: off-the-shelf software vs. custom development

What we build

Web applications

Customer portals, internal dashboards, tools built for one industry. Modern frameworks, responsive design, GDPR-compliant hosting on German servers.

Mobile apps

Field-service apps, customer apps, internal tools. Cross-platform for iOS & Android from a single codebase, offline-capable where it matters.

API development & system integration

Building interfaces, connecting legacy systems, integrating third-party services. Enter data once, have it available everywhere.

Legacy modernisation

Assessment, step-by-step migration, technology update, documentation. We replace only what genuinely needs replacing — no big bang.

How we work

1

Workshop (1–2 days)

We sit down with the people who will use the software every day. Not just with management — with the actual users. That is how we find out what is really needed.

2

Concept and quote

The workshop produces a technical concept with a clear schedule and budget. You know up front what you are getting, what it costs and when it will be ready.

3

Agile development

We work in two-week sprints. After every sprint you see progress, can test it and give feedback. No black box — you always know where things stand.

4

Testing and go-live

Thorough testing with real data, training for your staff and a supervised go-live. We do not hand over the finished product and disappear.

5

Maintenance and further development

After go-live we stay with you: updates, bug fixes, new features — handled by the same people, who already know your project.

What sets us apart

The same people every time

You always talk to the same people, not to whoever picks up the hotline. Your contact knows your project, your industry and what you are trying to achieve.

German servers, German law

Your data sits on servers in Germany and is governed by German data protection law and the GDPR. No detours through US cloud providers.

Transparent pricing

You know the cost before we start. No hidden licence fees, no surprises on the invoice. Fixed prices or transparent estimates.

What does custom software cost?

Every project is different. The figures below give you a realistic sense of what typical project sizes cost.

Project type Investment Typical duration
Simple web application (dashboard, portal) €15,000 – 40,000 6–12 weeks
Complex web application (multi-user, workflows) €40,000 – 100,000 3–6 months
Mobile app (cross-platform) €20,000 – 60,000 8–16 weeks
API / system integration €10,000 – 35,000 4–10 weeks
Legacy modernisation €25,000 – 80,000 2–6 months

Running costs: €500–2,500 per month for hosting, maintenance and support, depending on scope and SLA.

In our experience, companies running custom software save 30–40 % compared with off-the-shelf solutions over five years — through licence fees they no longer pay, less training effort and higher productivity.

Typical projects

“We need a customer portal”

Situation: An industrial company with 200 customers handled orders, queries and complaints by email and phone. A lot of manual work, plenty of room for error, slow response times.

Solution: A tailored customer portal where customers place orders, track their status and download documents themselves.

Result: 60 % less manual work for the back office. Customers are happier because they can reach their data at any time.

“Our systems do not talk to each other”

Situation: A trading company ran a CRM, an ERP and a separate warehouse system. Data was entered three times over, and mistakes were routine.

Solution: We built APIs connecting all three systems. Data now moves automatically, in real time.

Result: No more triple entry, far fewer errors, and faster processes from incoming order to delivery.

“The old software has to go”

Situation: A service company had been running an Access database for 20 years. The developer had retired, and nobody dared touch the system.

Solution: Step-by-step modernisation: first an assessment, then module-by-module replacement with a modern web application, running both in parallel during the migration.

Result: Zero downtime. Staff could adjust gradually. The new system is faster, safer and usable from anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Which technologies do you use?

For web applications we use React, Next.js and Node.js. Mobile apps are built with React Native or Flutter for the widest platform coverage. On the backend we use Node.js, Python or Go, depending on the requirements. We choose the technology per project — not by what is fashionable, but by what fits your requirements best.

How long does a typical project take?

A simple MVP or a focused web application can be delivered in 6–8 weeks. More complex projects with several user roles, workflows and integrations usually take 3–6 months. We work out a realistic schedule together during the workshop.

Can we continue developing the project in-house after go-live?

Yes. The code is yours, completely and without restrictions. We use mainstream technologies, write proper documentation and hand everything over so that your own team or another supplier can pick it up without friction.

Can our existing software be connected?

Almost always. Most systems offer APIs, database access or at least an export function. Where no interface exists, we build middleware or use RPA (robotic process automation) to connect the systems anyway.

What if requirements change during the project?

That is entirely normal and not a problem. Because we work in two-week sprints, requirements can be adjusted as we go. Every sprint is planned together, so new insights feed straight into the work.

Do you work outside Bensheim?

Yes. Most of the collaboration happens remotely — video calls, shared project spaces, regular updates. For workshops and important milestones we come to you in person, anywhere in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

What is custom software?

Custom software is software built for one particular company and its processes, as opposed to standard software built for a broad market. The difference is not technical but directional: with standard software you adapt your workflow to the product; with custom software the product adapts to your workflow. The code belongs to you, and there are no licence fees.

When is custom software worth it?

Wherever your processes are what set you apart. For accounting, email or time tracking, standard software is enough. But as soon as you are bridging several standard products with spreadsheets and manual re-entry, paying for features you never use, or finding that customising the standard product costs more than building your own — custom development pays off. Over five years the saving is typically 30 to 40 per cent.

How do I recognise a good custom software provider?

By three things. First, they talk to the people who will actually use the software before writing a quote — not just to management. Second, you get the code and the documentation without restrictions, so you could switch provider at any time. Third, they tell you when standard software would be the better choice. Anyone who answers every enquiry with a development project is not selling you a solution, they are selling you their capacity.
